SCMH Bake Sale for Make-A-Wish Concludes Successfully

http://www.scmh.com/scmh-bake-sale-for-make-a-wish-concludes-successfully/

Southern California Material Handling’s (SCMH) headquarters in Whittier, California was filled with happy bellies and smiling faces while generating funds for Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire for two consecutive Fridays in March—13th and 20th.

SCMH bakers donated their time, resources, and love in concocting delicious cookies, cakes, and a variety of pastries for everyone to enjoy for a minimum donation. At the end of the bake sale, employees were asked to vote for favorite goodies, the baker of which received Make-A-Wish tokens. Among the homemade contributions were:
Jim Nolan, Sales, Major Accounts – Bacon Cake
Cinese Stuart, PSSR – Crack Sticks & Salty Chocolate Bars
Pam Moross, Service – Pam’s Mom’s famous Chocolate Chip Cookies, Molasses Cookies, & Peanut Butter Cookies
Yolanda Palacios, Rental – Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Madeline Fuentes, Credit – Star Shape frosted Sugar Cookies & Cake Pops

The race was tight as all were very scrumptious. But in the end, the winning baker was Madeline Fuentes for her deliciously themed Make-A-Wish cookies.

The $361.00 proceeds from the bake sale was turned over to Make-A-Wish on March 26.

SCMH is extending to all its vendors, business partners, suppliers, and customers, the opportunity to contribute to Make-A-Wish for the benefit of children with life-threatening illnesses.

New to Warehousing Operations? 3 Things to Consider in Sourcing the Right Material Handling Company

New to Warehousing Operations?

3 Things to Consider in Sourcing the Right Material Handling Company

Yippee! You just landed a job as a warehouse manager. Maybe it was a well-deserved promotion and you already know the warehouse workflow by heart. Maybe you just earned your certificate in Logistics and Warehouse Management (click here for other courses http://education-portal.com/articles/Warehouse_Management_Classes_Courses_and_Training_Programs.html). But for whatever reason you are in this path, by choice or by fate, your first step in ensuring that your operations flow as smoothly as it can go, is to know who and what your available resources are.

GATHER INFORMATION   Are you taking someone else’s post? Make it a point to get a hold of all the contact information of the vendors, suppliers, technicians, etc. whom he has worked with. Make sure it is readily available and accessible because more likely than not, you will need that list. Without these information, you’ll be flying blind. Here’s a sample of a quick reference list http://www.scmh.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Directory-for-SCMH-Key-Contacts.pdf

Are you a business owner establishing a new warehouse? Solicit at least three proposals from reputable material handling companies and compare them against:
a.      Expertise & Experience How long has the company been around? Are they local? Can other customers attest to their quality of work? Would you choose a company who has been around five years over one that has been around 70 years? Check what their customers say about them. Do they have a BBB rating? Check even their social media pages. Do they have bad reviews? You’ll be surprised what you can dig up with customer reviews—good or bad, little things count. Here’s an example of a company with customer reviews and has been around for over 75 years http://www.scmh.com/testimonials/

b.      Responsiveness and professionalism     Consider this: How many times have you had to call a company before they provided you a quote? Did you have to follow-up? Imagine it’s only the beginning of a probable deal and you’ve already been made to wait. Suppliers who are not prompt may reflect probabilities of not meeting deadlines. So be observant about these little things. Get a referral too. See if you know anyone who has worked with and can vouch for material handling suppliers—be it a storage racking job, or warehouse products and supplies. Check out this Southern California local http://www.scmh.com/warehouse-systems/ they have an online catalogue where you can find most warehouse supplies. Their WPG manager Jim Neidhart is known for his responsiveness and expertise.

c.       Pricing  Why did we not put price on top of the list? Because cheaper does not always mean better. Especially when your entire warehouse operations depend on a reliable equipment and a well-flowing lay-out. While it is good to compare pricing, what is cost-effective must always be your first consideration. Would it be worth buying electric forklifts for a little bit more $ if your productivity is driven higher and if you save more on LP/Gas in the long run? You can contact news@scmh.com to help you determine what is the best forklift for your warehouse. They can come to you and they can advise you on the best truck capacity, make, model, type that is best suited for your warehouse.

If you’re in Orange County, call Jim Nolan. He is always ready to drop by your office early in the morning 562.244.2076. If you’re in San Fernando Valley, Chris Key is your guy. He runs a satellite office in that area dedicated to customers in the Valley. They have their own technicians, parts, and inventory of trucks. Chris can be reached at 818-612-1916. You can also browse their brand new inventory here http://www.scmh.com/category/new/.

Budgetary concerns? Have you considered renting? Maybe you have not decided yet what to buy. Maybe you want to try what works best. Since you’re new on the job, we recommend you go with a company that rents out brand new or newer trucks. Well-maintained and feature-packed means less things for you to worry about. Here’s a rental solutions company that rents out newer trucks in Southern California 1-877-752-3425. Yes, new, but the price is the same as the old trucks John Doe rents out next door. So don’t worry about the price. It’s NOT more expensive. Here's a sample of rental rates http://www.scmh.com/rental/forklift-rentals-los-angeles/pneumatic-tires/

So remember, gather information on experience and expertise. Gauge the responsiveness and professionalism of the material handling company. Solicit at least three quotes, do your research, and seek referrals. Cheaper is not always better.

Can't Afford New Forklifts? You can Afford to Rent Brand New Ones!

If it is more practical for your company to rent forklifts as opposed to owning them, then it should make sense renting the brand new ones. Here’s why:

1.      BUDGET  If your business rents instead of buys equipment due to budget constraints, then you should be able to rent the newer forklifts that do not dent your bottomline further. Newer trucks mean less downtime. Less maintenance costs. Less excuses from your operators to get the operations of your company going.

2.      PRODUCTIVITY It is a given that the newer trucks drive your productivity higher. The functions on the newer forklifts are smoother. The modern features are available, giving your operators ease of use, resulting in getting the job done in lesser hours. Plus, if you were the operator, wouldn’t you take pride in using newer equipment? I know I would jump ahead of everyone else so I don’t end up with the beat up forklift.

3.      SAFETY SCMH’s rental fleet is equipped with the blue light technology that enhances safety in the workplace. This is an added warning device that notifies pedestrians ahead of time that a forklift is coming. This is great for warehouses that are noise-laden where a lot of have grown immune to honking.

4.      COSTS THE SAME as renting old forklifts. That’s right! It’s not more expensive to rent newer forklifts. So why would you rent an old, beat up truck when you can rent a newer, more efficient equipment for the same price?

What are you waiting for? Switch now to SCMH Rental Solutions before our rental fleet is gone! It makes a great Holiday surprise for your operators.

Routine maintenance comes with every SCMH Rental Solutions Equipment.
All forklifts are maintained by factory-authorized technicians.

Take Care of Business Before the Holiday Rush

Planning ahead is always a good thing. Especially when it involves the Holiday season, you may want to consider getting ahead of those deadlines. While you think you may be ready for all the celebration the season brings, you may need extra time for that surprise visit from your aunt, or hunting the present you always thought would be on the store shelf.

So get all the work stuff accomplished earlier then have that extra time to spare when those Holiday surprises pop up. Here are some things that you can maybe take care of in advance:

1. Collate data you need for that year end report. Yes it may be too early, but you can gather the ones from January to October already. This way, you only have to input data for the remainder of the year. Sometimes too you're going to have to collaborate with others to accomplish that report. Give them a heads up and let them start preparing as well.

2. Don't wait 'til your next scheduled car check up or for the service button on your car to light up. Bring your vehicles up to speed with oil change, brake checks, etc., ahead of time so that when you're running around town over the Holidays, you don't have to worry about car break downs.

3. As early as now, finalize the list of recipients of corporate gifts. Start signing the greeting cards and passing them around. This helps in getting them out in the mail earlier without having to worry about courier/postal office's Holiday delivery load.

4. Check the supplies in your office. Are you running low on anything that is more in demand over the Holidays? Plates, spoons, forks, coffee supplies?

5. How are your service vehicles performing? Are your lift trucks well-oiled? Batteries in place? Filters changed? Do you have a go-to rental company in case you need more forklifts to service increased demand for your products this season?

6. Are any of your licenses expiring before the year ends? Driver's license? Business permits? Forklift operator certification? Subscription renewals? Now is the time to check into these things before issuing departments and organizations for these requirements announce their Holiday schedule.

Now breathe. Relax. After you've taken time to accomplish these things, you have more flexibility for that surprise visit.
