SCMH Supports LASPA cares for Kids

SCMH commits to the cause of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Association on August 24, 2016 by making a contribution towards its eye glasses program for children in Los Angeles. The purpose of the LASPA Cares For Kids Drive is to provide free eye exams and free pairs of new prescription eyeglasses for grammar school children in Los Angeles County who live in poverty.
“Our drive reaches into over 420 at-risk grammar schools in heavily Hispanic and African American communities.  Vision care has proven instrumental in improving test scores for children, particularly in the math and sciences.” Says Cesar Romero, Deputy Sheriff /President, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Association (LASPA).
L-R Tony Edgar Rental & Pre-Owned Manager, Alfred Gallegos Sales General Manager, Mike Wolfe COO, Pat Rivera LASPA Exec. Secretary, Angela Fuller Parts Manager, Gabby Duran HR Manager
According to LASPA an estimated 350,000 children, ages 18 and younger in Los Angeles County do not have health insurance. Up to 85% of academically and behaviorally at-risk children have vision problems that are either undetected or untreated. Children from poor urban areas, many of whom are members of ethnic minority groups, experience more than twice the normal rate of vision problems. Without the proper vision skills, these children will be at risk of losing interest in the classroom, on the athletic field, and dropping out. Thus starts the vicious cycle of gang recruitment, drugs, crime, and the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, in many instances, this type of lifestyle leads to premature death. Tragically, this cycle repeats when they have children of their own.
“SCMH directly provides material handling equipment and services in the LA & Orange Counties and we also want to reach out to the local communities we serve by helping, in whatever little way we can.” COO Mike Wolfe shares.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Association, known as LASPA, is a union with over 2000 sworn L.A. County Deputy Sheriff’s who wish to help the children of families who live at or below the poverty threshold.

When is it Time to Call it Quits?

At SCMH, we pride ourselves for expertly servicing material handling equipment. Regardless the make, model, and year of your forklift, we have trained technicians who can diagnose and keep your equipment moving. But beyond our passion to repair and maintain lift trucks is our commitment to give you an honest evaluation and our best recommendations.

If we find that your lift truck is causing more headache to maintain than to keep, we are obliged to let you know. We have your best interest at the top of our list and once we determine that your productivity and efficiency are compromised, you need to be informed.
According to SCMH Major Account manager Dan Lundy “If it is causing you more downtime and costing you more money in repairs, then it might be time for a replacement.” Nearly 30-years in the industry, Dan knows when it’s time to recommend more cost-effective solutions to his customers.
Consider These:
Usage
We ask our customers what type of usage they need the forklift for. Is it heavy usage or Low usage? If they are using the equipment heavily, then they best be investing in brand new equipment. If it’s low-usage, then we can save a little by buying a used lift truck with lower hours that will still yield years of service.
Age
If the lift truck is breaking down too often and it is about five to 10 years old, we would recommend replacing the equipment.
Time
How long would you like to keep the lift truck? Would you like to own it? Or would you rather lease? At SCMH there are many lease options you can choose from, depending on your company’s needs.
Payment
Forklifts may be paid for outright or financed. This all depends on your company’s financial structure and your preferences. Either way, we can help you. We have several finance companies who can get you qualified to purchase equipment.
Upgrades
Finally, we also make you aware of the latest and newest updates on lift trucks suited for your operations. For instance, you can opt for long-term cost savings if your application has an electric equivalent—same productivity, longer run times, no fuel costs. It may also save some costs doing upgrades, attachments, accessories  and installing advanced features at the time of purchase, as opposed to adding them later on.
Whether you decide to “work it out” with your existing equipment or choose to “move on”, SCMH is here to help you make an informed choice—based on your repair history, projecting throughput, and/or computing for payment, our experienced account managers can guide you through the process that will not only yield you optimum productivity, but will maximize cost efficiency. http://www.scmh.com/time-call-quits/

Empowering Operators through State-of-the-Art Equipment and Optimum Service

Classic Distributing for SCMH

Increasing order picking capabilities is made easy with the Jungheinrich Order Picker EKS 110 according to Warehouse IT Manager Alex Hernandez. “We are a multi-brand beer wholesalers, 30 years strong—SCMH gave us that opportunity to win and execute out on retail.”

Classic Distributing works with about 42 major suppliers and carries about 80% of beverage products you see on local shelves. As a multi-awarded distributing company, Classic is frequented by other distributors for best practices and new warehouse innovations. “We always recommend our Jungheinrich order pickers and in fact, two distributors have gone and purchased their own from SCMH.”

As a Warehouse IT expert, Alex is keen on order picking rates and has implemented many advancements such as voice pick, to boost productivity. “We have about 17 Jungheinrich order pickers and more are placed on order. These have given us the lift to our order-selecting operations, we’ve long been waiting for. The fact that its ease of use to navigate through the warehouse, and can lift the pallets off the ground high enough to load onto the conveyor, plus the platform raised 4-5 feet gives my team a chance to win and execute on the floor.”

Fleet and Facility Manager Dan Chilson who’s warehouse management expertise spans 34 years, 25 years of which has been with Classic, is keen on optimum maintenance and service of his fleet. “Investing in these equipment means investing in their maintenance as well. I recommend you find a company you can trust who is prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. For us, that is SCMH.”

Both Dan and Alex speak highly of their account managers Jim Nolan (Major Accounts) and Henry Saavedra (Parts and Service). “They are very prompt. I call Henry for a repair and their techs who are really good, either Anthony or Jaime, are usually here within the day. To me that is very important.” Dan says that SCMH techs catch the smallest problems needing attention so that it does not scale up to bigger repairs that would cost more. “This is a big deal to us because it says so much about how they look out for our best interest.”
